Chef Jang: Aberdeen Market

I’D HEARD nothing but good things about Chef Jang. But the out of the way location and the early closing time of 5.30pm had always put me off.

However, after pushing through the bustling market, the range of cheap, Japanese food was a worthy reward.

First I opted for the vegetarian dumplings (£3). The six snacks combined a soft centre with crispy edges and packed a garlic-flavoured punch.

Next I opted for salmon and avocado maki (£3) with a huge helping of wasabi. The neatly-packaged rolls, filled with thick chunks of smoked salmon and avocado, melted in my mouth.

Next up was Chicken Teriyaki (£5). Served with a huge rice ball, the sight of the hard chicken strips was a bit off-putting.

However, when it came to the taste test, the chicken along with the chargrilled vegetable strips, was tasty, if not a little salty.

Once again, I’ve learned the value of listening to word of mouth.
