Light of Bengal: Rose Street, Aberdeen

THEY say starve a fever and feed a cold. Not being one to argue with medical advice, when I felt the sniffles coming on I reached for a box of tissues and our takeaway menus.

The Light of Bengal’s delicious selection looked to be just the warming cure I needed.

I chose the lamb Ceylon (£9.25) and garlic nan bread (£3.75).

The tender, juicy morsels of delicious lamb were so tender I didn’t need to use my knife once.

The dish’s rich creamy coconut sauce delivered a zing of spice in each mouthful.

My fiance decided on the chicken dansak (£8.95) with a plain nan bread (£2.95).

He devoured his dish in minutes, relishing the perfectly-cooked chicken, and its sweet and sour sauce packed with flavour and full of lentils.

With a portion of pilau rice (£3.25) between us, our meal was complete. The only gripe we had was the rather hefty price tag at £28.15. But, overall, it was just what the doctor ordered.
