Enigma: The Academy, Aberdeen

DECISIONS, decisions. They are most definitely not my strong point.
Choosing which socks to wear in the morning is enough of a poser for me, never mind having to pick a whole meal in a restaurant.
By the time everyone else has ordered their three courses, I’m still swithering over whether I want to sit by the window or the aisle.
So the set-up at Aberdeen’s trendy Enigma was music to my ears.
Here, you can choose either a starter or main-size portion of a wide range of dishes, making those tricky decisions a whole lot simpler.
I plumped for a starter portion of Thai salad (£4.75). The bowl that arrived was packed with melt-in-the-mouth strips of beef on a bed of lettuce and lemon grass, and was so large I was wondering if they had got my order mixed up!
My girlfriend’s honey glazed chicken (£4.75) was huge too, with the lime and chilli sauce combining beautifully with the meat.
I’d gone for my perennial favourite, crispy chilli beef (£8.95), for my main course, and I wasn’t disappointed. Unlike some of the deep fried offerings you can find in Chinese takeaways, this dish offered hearty chunks of meat, lightly fried and doused in a thick, tangy sauce, with plenty of rice to mop it up.
My other half’s nachos (£8.75) came with loads of dip and the perfect amount of cheese, with BBQ chicken (£1) adding that extra something.
