JETSETTING couple Tania and Glen Robitaille have lived all over the world.
So when they decided to stay in Aberdeen, they were looking for a property that was full of the character they had enjoyed elsewhere.
And they found it – in this three-storey townhouse, once part of the University of Aberdeen’s Hilton campus and now an exclusive development by Cala Homes.
Tania, whose family have lived in Aberdeen since she was 16, said: “The fact that the property was unusual is exactly what attracted us in the first place.
“I think a lot of houses just have one really big room – but in this house they’re all big.
“In fact, the only thing I was worried about when we saw it was that the size of the rooms and the high ceilings might mean it was a bit cold.
“However, it’s been the opposite – really cosy and homely.” Tania, 30, is now a full-time mum to Alexander, 19 months, after finishing work as a mud engineer with Halliburton.
Her father also worked for the company and her childhood was spent living in places like Jakarta, Singapore, Borneo and Stavanger.
They eventually settled in the North-east 14 years ago and she completed her education at Gordonstoun School in Moray.
Glen, a 40-year-old global product manager for Weatherford, who is from Toronto, Canada, met Tania while on holiday in Singapore.
And you can feel a sense of their worldly outlook in their impressive home.
They’ve picked up eye-catching artwork on their travels, and fabulous prints adorn the walls of most rooms. And the high ceilings and neutral walls are perfect for showing off the pictures to maximum effect.
Tania said: “The kitchen has a lovely Dali which has bright colours and tigers in it which is a favourite.
“And Glen really likes some Canadian artists – we’ve definitely got different tastes.”
Another sight for sore eyes is the view from the master bedroom.
Tania said: “You can see the harbour and all the lights of the city. “At night it’s really pretty to see them all twinkling away.
“The master bedroom is my joint favourite room in the house, along with the living room which is huge but cosy.”
Tania and Glen are preparing to move to Houston next, and think they might eventually settle in Canada one day.
They will be back to visit often, as Tania has family in Bridge of Don and Inverurie.
And although they have been in this house for less than two years, it holds lots of special memories.
Tania said: “Alex had his first Christmas here and opened his first presents.
“We also had his first birthday party too.
“We’ve got nice pictures to remember it and will always have special memories of being here,” she added.
