I WAS privileged to be asked to play at the inaugural Scottish Royal Variety Show, hosted by Tam Cowan and Jenni Falconer.
It’s always great to return to Glasgow – such a magnificent city that never fails to deliver a banging crowd.
For my performance I showcased a set of new tunes from my forthcoming Blues EP entitled Shades Of Blue and took my first ever lead guitar solo – woo hoo! I’m doing it for the girls!
The eight-track EP will be on sale next month when I tour the UK with the New Beautiful South – the Aberdeen gig is sold-out.
The wonderful audience packing out the Royal Concert Hall seemed fairly chuffed with my efforts and, of course, I sang my signature track as a closer which again seemed to please all.
The Red Hot Chilli Pipers rocked the stage, I totally love those guys.
As did comedian Danny Bhoy who was full of banter backstage.
The award for the most lavishly dressed had to go to Miss Falconer who was floating around in what can only be described as a diamond-encrusted mermaid dress.
It was probably worth enough money to feed a whole country but she did look dazzling in it.
Natasha’s bro Daniel Bedingfield was there as well as Dougie MacLean, who wrote the magnificent Caledonia.
I haven’t heard hide nor hair of Mr Bedingfield for quite some time, so I was slightly shocked at his sudden burst back onto the scene.
I met Natasha once at an awards ceremony and I have to say she was a lovely girl, full of beans.
The new-look Sugababes, however, failed to show to headline the night, citing “legal reasons” for their non-appearance.
You can interpret that however you like, there’s just far too many possibilities to consider.
I like to imagine that the new girl ate a dodgy lamb bhuna and spent the night hugging porcelain with the other two outside the khazi curled over laughing in hysterics.
However, a little bird tells me that their non-appearance was in fact due to Keisha’s sudden split from the band and that the original line up had been booked therefore making their contract null and void.
The night continued after the show and all and sundry moved onto to various hotels across the city where the champagne flowed and the banter was fluid.
Myself and my crew kick-started a small party at the Radisson where we were joined by Dougie, Jenni, the Bedingfield clan and many more.
All and all, a great night.
