Ninety Nine Bar and Kitchen: 1 Back Wynd, Aberdeen

SUNDAY afternoons – they were invented for relaxing.

And what better place to do it than a laid-back bar with mellow music to soothe the nerves after a hectic weekend?

As we slumped into the comfy chairs and perused the relatively small menu (which is a good thing – us men don’t like having decisions to make), our worries disappeared.

After a wee bit of a wait (I did say it was a relaxed atmosphere) our food arrived.

It took courage, but I opted for a warm steak salad (£8.95) over the mouth-wateringly delicious sounding chicken stuffed with Stornoway black pudding.

Tender steak strips on a bed of lettuce and covered with a tangy mustard dressing – it was more filling than it looked.

Accompanied by croutons and shavings of parmesan cheese, the dish was attracting admiring glances from across the table.

Sitting there across said table was my fiancee, who was tucking into quesadillas (£3.95) from the starter section of the menu.

Stuffed with cheese, salsa and jalapenos, they had just the right amount of spice in them to perk her up. They were satisfyingly crispy on the outside and full of flavoursome filling on the inside.

Accompanied by a bowl of chips (£2) and drinks, the total bill came to £17.90.
