Ross is Spence Trophy champion

ROSS Anderson has been crowned this year’s Spence Trophy champion on home soil.

The Stonehaven youngster lifted the trophy, regarded as the Junior Champion of Champions, after defeating Craig Chalmers, of Murcar Links, by 7&6 in the final.

Ross had earlier beaten Chris Lamb 5&3 in the semi-finals.

The previous Stonehaven winner was Andrew Locke, who is now the teaching professional at Inchmarlo, in 1980.

Ross had finished third of the four qualifiers after earlier scores of 75 and 70 at the Stonehaven course.
