MEMBERS of an Aberdeen band were today on cloud nine after the UK’s number one pop star got in touch to praise their acoustic version of his song.

Aberdeen band Outbox were stunned when top-selling pop star Taio Cruz made contact to say he liked their cover of his hit single Break Your Heart.

The Aberdeen trio, who have been together for four years, got an e-mail from pop star Taio Cruz that read: “Love your cover of my tune guys. Keep it up!”

Outbox recorded the cover version of Cruz’s hit Break Your Heart before it was released last month, but the band no idea it would have a three-week run at the top.

And the Aberdeen band were even more shocked when rising star Taio Cruz dropped them the e-mail praising their efforts and then posted their video on his own website.

The Aberdeen band said they were “delighted” with their unexpected fame and hoped that music fans would now listen to their new single.

Outbox singer and guitarist Mike Macdermid said the group, with bandmates Rachael Wood and Steve Curtis, recorded their version of Taio Cruz’s single Break Your Heart the end of August.

The 26-year-old band member said: “When we got the e-mail we were extremely surprised. It was really cool and really nice of him to do that.”

Outbox’s single Lucy You’ve Got To Go Home came out earlier this month and has been picking up airplay and industry praise.

Mike added: “To get exposure from a major artist means a lot to us.”
