Slow Boat: Hardgate, Aberdeen

SATURDAY nights were made for this – The X Factor, a bottle of wine and, most importantly, a takeaway.

It had been ages since we last paid a visit to the Slow Boat, and not wanting to venture out into the chilly autumn night we opted to get our feast delivered. Just 15 minutes later, the food had arrived – half-an-hour earlier than promised!

Our special starter (£7.20), a mixture of spring rolls, chicken satay skewers, seaweed and spare ribs, was lovely.

The spring rolls were fine and crispy, while the satay skewers were juicy and had that nice peanutty taste.

Unfortunately, my beef satay (£5.50) and egg fried rice (£1.80) lacked that same nuttiness.

While the dish was packed with tender beef and an array of veg, it just didn’t have that real satay taste I was craving.

The Boss’s kung po chicken (£5.20) and noodles (£2.70) were lovely, just the thing to get her set up for a night in front of the telly. The nice and tangy sauce was packed with cashews, water chestnuts and onions.
