ABERDEEN’S biggest and best Christmas panto was launched today in a flurry of tinsel.

Fairy Godmother Elaine C Smith arrived in Aberdeen, complete with magical carriage and horses, to launch Cinderella at His Majesty’s Theatre.

The festive show will feature cutting-edge 3D wizardry and the return of much-loved double act Alan McHugh and Jordan Young.

Elaine – one of Scotland’s best-loved actresses and a legend of the panto scene – said: “HMT is at the forefront of creating a magical experience with its pantomimes.

“It brings a bit of humour and magic into people’s lives.”

Elaine’s confidence in the panto, sponsored once again by the Evening Express, is backed by the show’s executive producer, Michael Harrison.

“I think Cinderella is probably the funniest panto we’ve had in Aberdeen,” said Michael.

“We have Alan and Jordan making their regular appearance, this time as the Ugly Sisters – I think Jordan is wary about putting a frock on.

“But we also have the added bonus of Elaine, one of the true, great panto performers.

“It will also be spectacular because 3D returns this year.”

On top of this will be lavish costumes, a spectacular set and big musical production numbers during the panto’s five-week run – a week longer than previous years – from November 28.

Damian Bates, editor of the Evening Express, said: “The HMT panto is an essential part of what an Aberdeen Christmas is all about – magic, excitement and bringing people together,” he said.
