No more cup shame games for Aberdeen FC
McGhee’s plea to his players

MARK McGhee today called for Aberdeen FC to prove they are no longer cup flops by dumping Dundee.
Aberdeen FC face the First Division outfit tonight in the third round of the Co-operative Insurance Cup at Dens Park.
Lower league opposition have inflicted humiliating cup losses on Aberdeen in recent years.
Queen’s Park, Queen of the South and Dunfermline all shocked Aberdeen FC – but McGhee insists there will be no cup slip-ups on his watch.
McGhee said: “Losing to Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup last season was very disappointing for Aberdeen FC, but I want them to prove they are a completely different team now.
“I do not want to disappoint the fans with another defeat to a lower league side.
“There is a lot of pressure on this tie for Aberdeen FC, due to recent cup results, and because we are an SPL team in the top half of the league.
“This is a game we have to win, and I have every confidence we will do that.”
Former Aberdeen FC boss Jimmy Calderwood was ultimately axed due to his failure to bring cup success to Pittodrie.
And his successor McGhee accepts he has landed a daunting cup debut with Aberdeen FC, away to big-spending Dundee.
The Dens Park club were second only to Celtic in money spent during the summer transfer window.
“Just like Manchester City, Dundee have spent a lot of money,” he said.
“But Manchester City lost at the weekend, and I aim to ensure Dundee lose tonight.”
