Bruce the hero as Buckie beat Cove to land cup

HOMETOWN hero Steve Bruce fired Buckie Thistle to glory in the final of the Evening Express Aberdeenshire Cup.

Hundreds of fans made the journey to The Haughs to see Gregg Carrol’s side beat champions Cove Rangers 2-0, and they celebrated in style as skipper Kevin Small lifted the trophy.

The win was just reward for a determined performance sparked by individual moments of brilliance from striker Bruce.

The powerful centre forward lit up the game with two goals worthy of any cup final.

He said: “The first strike was a cracker and I was chuffed to get a goal like that in the final.

“We knew the opener was going to be important so I was delighted to see it fly in.

“I’m from Buckie so it was a special moment for me.”
