Evening Express launches Pub of the Year competition
Say ‘cheers’ to your favourite bar

THE Evening Express has relaunched its Pub of the Year competition.
Sixteen years after the last winners were announced, pubs can now battle it out for the title.
And reigning champions, the Newmachar Hotel in Aberdeen, will again vie for the coveted pub award.
Aberdeen hotel owner Grant Wright said: “We just recently put the mirror back up in the bar after we redecorated. Winning the competition was good for us.
“We got a boost from it because customers who had never been before were coming to visit.
“Something like this can really raise your profile and that’s even more important in times like these.”
All pub bosses have to do is fill in the registration form printed in the Evening Express from next week, then return it.
Pubs should get customers to collect as many tokens as possible, which will be printed in the paper every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
A starter pack with helpful hints and posters will also be sent out to get pubs going.
When the competition ends, three finalists from each of the three zones will be chosen.
Then a secret Evening Express spy will check out each of the pubs.
The one with the most marks wins, scooping £500 towards a party for regulars and an Evening Express Pub of the Year mirror to take pride of place at the bar.
