THE North-east is full of little nooks and crannies with great eateries to discover.

The Linsmohr Hotel in Pitmedden is one such nook.

The Bronie Brasserie at the hotel, is quiet, laid back and elegant and a perfect place to sit down for a great Sunday lunch.

My girlfriend went for the roast of the day (£8.75) which was a tender rib-eye and nice and pink inside.

It was brilliantly presented with a large homemade Yorkshire pudding on top and roast potatoes underneath that had soaked up the delicious gravy.

Although tempted by the choice of starters, including a “freshly caught haggis” I opted for a simple main course of steak and ale pie (£7.75) which was also thoughtfully presented.

The pastry was crisp and the big chunks of meat were succulent. It came served with roast potatoes or chips.

There was still time for dessert before the kitchen closed for the afternoon so I went for the apple pie (£4.50), which was more of a tart, but was sweet, spiced with nutmeg and came with chantilly cream and ice cream and a garnish of brambles. My girlfriend went for the classic Scottish afters, the Bronie clootie dumpling (£4.50) which was very tasty and came with a big scoop of a delicious ice-cream and a hot fudge sauce.
