Golden City: Hayton Road, Aberdeen

FOOD and films go hand-in-hand for me, be it popcorn at the cinema – or a takeaway and a DVD.

So when I planned a quiet night in with my feet up and a movie, Golden City was the ideal choice for our food.

I opted for my favourite of vegetable curry with boiled rice (£4.30) and was not disappointed.

The fresh vegetables were smothered in a rich, dark tangy sauce that packed a real punch.

And the portions were more than ample, although I still managed to polish them off.

My friend chose chicken curry with fried rice (£5). Again the sauce was spicy, but not overpowering, and her dish packed with succulent chunks of meat.

Along with prawn crackers (£1.30), both dishes were finished long before the end credits rolled on the DVD.

But the film – a bland rom-com chosen by my girlfriend – now, that left a sour taste in my mouth.
