PUBS contain three of my favourite things in life – food, beer and football on TV.
So when the opportunity arose to go to a pub within crawling distance of home to watch football, drink beer and eat some food, I was on to it quicker than Joe Harper could score a goal.
After some friendly banter with the barman, who doubled as our waiter, we settled down to take in the action.
The Boss wasn’t too enamoured with the football and beer aspect of the evening’s entertainment, but she soon perked up when her cajun chicken wrap (£5.95) arrived.
The tasty treat was full to the brim with chicken, cheese and flavoursome cajun spices.
The accompanying chips and salad were a welcome addition, with the salad coated in a lovely dressing giving it that bit of added flavour.
My beef burger (£5.45) with cheese and bacon (an extra 50p each) was – unlike my team – just spot on.
It had that lovely chargrilled taste and the succulent beef just oozed quality.
With a little salad, some chips, a portion of onion rings to share and a slightly toasted roll, it was the perfect way to get the evening under way.
It’s just a pity my team couldn’t follow suit.
With a pint of lager and a glass of wine, the bill came to a reasonable £20.95.
