THERE’S a cracking line-up in the Evening Express Champion of Champions scratch semi-finals.
Double national title winner David Law, of Hazlehead, will take on former champion Laurie Phillips at Cruden Bay for a place in the final.
McDonald Ellon’s John Godward will play host to Graeme Mitchell, of Braemar, in the other semi.
David made history by becoming the first to win the Scottish Boys’ Championship, at Royal Aberdeen, and also the Scottish Men’s Amateur Championship, at Royal Troon, in the same year.
The 18-year-old received an invitation to play in next week’s Johnnie Walker Championships at Gleneagles as a reward for his efforts, but unfortunately the tournament clashes with the Men’s Home Internationals at Irvine.
David said: “It’s unfortunate that the two competitions are at the same time, but I’m looking forward to playing for Scotland again.
“However, winning the Scottish men’s amateur will earn me entry into the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond next year which is a huge bonus.”
David was disappointed by the manner of his defeat in the British Boys’ Championship at Royal St George’s in Kent last week where he lost out in the last 16 to James Burnett, of Sleaford, by one hole.
He said: “To lose by one hole was extremely disappointing. I lipped out from 20ft to take the match into extra holes.
“But looking back it’s been a terrific year for me. As far as the future is concerned, the Walker Cup at Royal Aberdeen next year is a goal.
“After that, I will make a decision on my career on whether I will turn professional. “
