Golden Crown: Crown Street, Aberdeen

THERE are times when you just can’t resist the urge to indulge in some fine Chinese fare.
So, off I was sent to the Golden Crown.
Being greedy, we decided to have a starter and the crispy vegetarian pancake roll was a bargain at £2.20.
But while tasty, the rolls just lacked that home-made feel.
Fancying something on the lighter side, I opted for the beef chow mein (£5). The beef was a bit dry, while the dish would have been better with a bit of sauce to complement the lovely, soft noodles.
My fiancee went for her usual crispy shredded beef in chilli sauce (£6) and described it as “perfect”.
And after sneaking a wee taste myself, I just had to agree.
Unlike many takeaways, you could taste the beef as opposed to just the crispy batter coating.
The sauce had a nice zing to it and had just the right consistency to accompany the thick noodles.
Including a portion of prawn crackers (£1.50), the total bill came to £14.70.
