ABERDEEN FC Ladies have just kicked off their new short season as the prepare for their first taster of summer football next year.

The ladies are part of a twelve team Premier League and will play the other clubs once in the current short season, as well as matches in the Premier League Cup.

There will be no promotion or relegation when the term ends in November, with a new full season starting in March 2010.

SFA League Administrator for Girls’ and Women’s Football, Julie Frame’ believes that the new format will benefit everyone involved in the game.

She said: “The new format will provide a better experience for everyone.

“In previous seasons there has been a lot of postponed matches due to winter weather.

However, Aberdeen FC Ladies club secretary, Dave Urquhart reckons that while it has its advantages, summer football also poses a new problem.

He said: “Summer football is good for pitch quality, but it’s difficult for the club to find available pitches in the summer.”

Good, if the ladies have the sense to do it then isn't it about time we followed suit? Perhaps it may just be the answer to the end of debacles like Sigma and Norway. Oh, and also, hase anyone actually stopped to consider that more people might actually want to go and watch football when it's sunny than on a freezing night in february? The best thing about being at the Sigma match at Pittodrie was the view of the sunset from the top of the RDS.
