The Ship Inn: Stonehaven

STONEHAVEN harbour is the perfect setting for a sunny Sunday.
And the Ship Inn’s new glass-fronted restaurant allows diners to watch the boats bobbing on the water while eating some tasty fare.
After a wander along the shore, my boyfriend and I decided to pop into the revamped bar eatery for some lunch.
The menu is packed with staple pub grub as well as more adventurous choices.
I opted for the haddock mornay (£10.25). Perfectly-cooked white fish was bound in a creamy sauce topped with cheese and a sprinkle of paprika.
The meal was served with a generous portion of crunchy chips and veg – delicious.
My dining partner went for one of the many specials on offer – the chicken pie (£10.95).
Large chunks of meat were doused in a creamy leek sauce and golden pastry.
On the side was a bundle of hand-cut potato wedges cooked in their skins and chargrilled onions and carrots.
The pie was yummy but a little too salty for my boyfriend’s taste.
The selection of puds sounded fantastic, with the fresh strawberries and raspberries served with ice cream a firm favourite in the dining room, but our mains had filled us up so I settled for a cappuccino (£2.25).
With drinks the lunch came to a total of £28 – easily worth every penny for the view alone.
