ABERDEEN’S latest golfing hero David Law is setting his sights on playing in the Walker Cup.

The Hazlehead youngster made history at Royal Troon when he became the first Scottish Boys Champion to win the Scottish Amateur Championship in the same year.

At just 18, Law is also one of the youngest players to claim the SGU’s flagship championship title in what proved to be a thrilling final against Paul O’Hara, from Colville Park, which ended at the second extra hole.

Law, who won the Boys title at Royal Aberdeen in April, was this week heading south to play in the Boys’ Home International at Hankley Common in Surrey.

He said: “I can’t quite believe it, I am delighted with how I played under pressure in front of so many people.

“At Royal Aberdeen earlier this year, I fell away a bit in the second round of the final and I learned from that experience and dealt with it better this time around.

“At the start of the week I thought reaching the quarter-finals would be a good performance, but once I started winning matches, I grew more and more confident and kept revising my possibilities.

“What surprised me was how comfortable I felt out there.

“Maybe going through it all at boys’ level in April at Balgownie helped me deal with it.

“The Walker Cup is at Royal Aberdeen in 2011 and that’s my big target.”
