CHRIS Maguire today admitted it hurt having to watch the video nasty of Aberdeen FC’s Euro slaughter by Sigma Olomouc.
Aberdeen FC manager Mark McGhee made his entire squad sit through a re-run of their 5-1 Pittodrie defeat by their Czech opponents.
Striker Maguire didn’t enjoy the experience and claimed it will fire Aberdeen FC up to do better when the clubs meet again on Thursday.
Maguire said: “All the players are down, and we cannot go into the new season feeling like that.
“We have to pick ourselves up, regroup and take something from Sigma so that we can face Celtic with confidence.
“The new SPL season begins on August 15 and we have to be ready for that.
“We have to get our self-belief and confidence back by getting a result.
“There is no way we can go into the opening game against Celtic still feeling the effects of that 5-1 defeat.
“We are not only playing for pride in the second leg, we will be looking to get something to build on for the new SPL season.
“Watching the video wasn’t nice but it had to be done if we are to learn from what went wrong.
“The manager also spoke with the players after the game, but whatever was said in the dressing room, stays there.
“The fans will be disappointed but I can assure them that the players are also hurting as well.
“We all know that we have let ourselves down, and the fans down.
“Now we need to band together as a team and pick ourselves up and get something in the Czech Republic.
“There is a strong team spirit at the club and we will all stick together to ensure that we get through this.”
Sigma Olomouc had struggled to see off Icelandic part-timers Fram Reykjavik in the previous round.
The Czechs were held 1-1 at home, before defeating the Scandinavians 2-0 in the return leg.
Yet they outclassed Aberdeen FC in a nightmare second half where they rattled in four goals.
Maguire, 20, accepts the tie is all but dead for the Dons, but insists that will not stop them from going for broke in Olomouc.
“Realistically, it would be asking too much of us to turn this around because we need to win 5-0 to go through,” he said.
“That is such a hard task and Sigma are a good team.
“After putting so much into qualifying for the Europa League from the SPL last season it is so disappointing to be going over there 5-1 down.
“At one point in the game we looked on course for at least a draw, which would have done us.
“It would have given us something to take across to the Czech Republic, and given us a chance to go through.”
