Nightmare for Aberdeen groom-to-be as pal crashes £30,000 TVR
Binman Stuart planned to use supercar at wedding

ABERDEEN man Stuart Howie’s £30,000 is in a spin after his pal crashed his £30,000 TVR Tuscan – the car he planned to use on his wedding day.
Stuart, 30, of Cove, let his pal Robbie Guyan drive his TVR supercar on the Grampian Transport Museum track at Alford.
But poor Stuart could only look on from the passenger seat as his dream machine crashed into a fence.
The Cove binman has been left facing an £8,000 repair bill – and a race to fix the car in time for his wedding next month.
The accident happened at a Subaru Impreza Driver’s Club Day, at Alford’s Grampian Transport Museum, which Subaru WRX owner Robbie was attending.
Stuart said: “Robbie asked me for a shot of the TVR. In the past we’ve driven each other’s cars and I wasn’t really worried.
“He went round the bend and lost control and the car skidded on the grass. Everything happened in a split second.
“I was totally numb – and I’m still in shock.”
Stuart, who nicknamed the storm grey TVR “Tres”, has driven only 300 miles since buying it five months ago.
He said Robbie, 30, who will be a groomsman at the wedding at Kingswells Church, was “sickened” by what had happened.
Stuart said: “It wasn’t his fault – it was an accident – these things happen.
“The main thing was nobody was hurt. The damage was cosmetic.”
Stuart, a member of the TVR Car Club, tried a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, a Lotus and a Porsche before settling on the TVR.
He said: “I’d always dreamed of owning a supercar, and it’s great to finally realise the dream.
“The other cars I tested just don’t compare.
“My car has surpassed all expectations with its engineering, shape and look. It’s a dream to drive.”
The TVR has been booked in to be fixed and Stuart is confident it will be ready in time for his marriage to Shona Fowler, 26, who works at Aberdeen University Students’ Association.
Stuart is planning to drive the car to church, and then whisk his wife off to the reception at The Hilton Treetops.
And he warned his friends not to paint “just married” on his precious vehicle.
He said: “They’re welcome to put a sign on – as long as it’s on cardboard.”
Stuart is also thinking twice about letting anyone drive it – including Shona, who is desperate to pass her test.
He joked: “Nobody’s getting to drive it except me from now on.”
