Filling Station: Union Street, Aberdeen

WELL, one thing you can say about the Filling Station is that it does exactly what it says on the sign – it fills you up.
Having spent the day in the garden, a spot of cooking was not an option, so we popped round to the bright and airy Union Street eatery to top up our empty tanks.
My bacon and cheese potato skins (£4.45) were the ideal way to get going, with the cheese melted to that perfect point.
After initially bringing my fiancee the wrong starter, when she did get her battered mushrooms (£3.95), they arrived in a crispy coating with a tasty garlic dip – but disappointingly lacked a token side salad.
Her New York chicken – a chicken breast wrapped in cheese and bacon smothered in a barbecue sauce – was disappointing.
The chicken was slightly dry and was not drenched in sauce as the menu had said.
However, it did redeem itself slightly with the lovely onion rings and tasty corn on the cob accompanying it.
While the future Mrs G was gnawing away at the corn, I was busy tucking in to my meatball calzone pizza (£8.45).
Now this was a real treat.
It was a massive pizza smothered with tasty pork meatballs, a lovely bolognese sauce and spicy pepperoni.
With a pint of lager (£3.05) and glass of wine (£5.25) the bill came to a pricey (£36.90).
