A BIKER was in a serious condition in an Aberdeen hospital today after a road smash in Aberdeenshire.

The 31-year-old man, of Oldmeldrum, was injured after his red Suzuki Bandit N600 motorcycle was involved in a crash with a purple Ford Ka.

The Aberdeenshire man was taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The accident happened on the unclassified Barthol Chapel and St Katherine’s road, near Oldmeldrum, at about 5.50pm yesterday.

The 21-year-old car driver, who comes from Fyvie, escaped injury.

Grampian Police, Grampian Fire and Rescue Service and Scottish Ambulance Service all attended the scene of the Aberdeenshire accident.

The Aberdeenshire road was closed for several hours while crash investigators examined the scene.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “A man in his early 30s was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. His injuries are thought to be serious.”

Grampian Police today appealed for any witnesses to the smash to come forward.

The crash near Oldmeldrum is the latest in a string of serious road accidents across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

Another motorcyclist died in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after a collision on the A93 Ballater to Dinnet road the previous day at about 9.40pm.

The 21-year-old man’s motorbike was involved in a collision with a car on the Aberdeenshire road.

Meanwhile, Grampian Police are still appealing for witnesses to a separate smash, on Aberdeen’s Holburn Street on Thursday.

Grampian Police officers are still trying to piece together the cause of the Aberdeen accident, which happened on Thursday.

A 20-year-old woman was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries after her bike was involved in a collision with a lorry on the Aberdeen street.

The accident, near the roundabout junction with Aberdeen’s South Anderson Drive, happened at about 2pm and involved a DAF articulated tanker.

The cyclist was today in a critical condition at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The lorry driver, a 55-year-old man, was uninjured as a result of the Holburn Street smash.
