MEMBERSHIP at an Aberdeen tennis club has rocketed, thanks to Andy Murray’s Wimbledon heroics.
Cults tennis club now welcome more than 60 children to weekly sessions.
And that number is set to rise further as Murray bids to become the first British male champion at Wimbledon since 1936.
Cults committee member Brian Adams said: “There has been a real upsurge in the popularity of tennis in the city thanks to Andy Murray.’’
“We now have more than 60 youngsters playing regularly at the club, from the age range of five all the way up to 17.
“During Wimbledon all the tennis courts are packed with youngsters.
“Once the tournament has finished it is important we keep them interested and still coming along.”
Formed in 1887, the club boasts six floodlit artificial grass courts.
And they are set to follow Wimbledon’s example by making their courts immune to the weather.
“We hope to install a dome over two of the courts that will make it playable in all weather – even throughout the winter,” Adams said.
