Aberdeen to welcome back Billy Connolly
Ticket rush expected for comic Billy’s Aberdeen gig

SCOTS comedy legend Billy Connolly will play a one-night stand in Aberdeen.
Tickets for the Big Yin’s gig at the Music Hall on Friday, September 25, were due to go on sale today.
And Music Hall bosses were expecting all 1,200 tickets to be snapped up within a couple of hours.
Billy’s last gig at the Music Hall – two nights in April 2005 – sold out within two hours, the clamour for tickets jamming the phone lines to the box office.
Billy Connolly will perform the gig in September – with no support and no interval – as part of the Music Hall’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
Joyce Summers, press manager for Aberdeen Performing Arts, said: “We are thrilled Billy Connolly will be at the Music Hall for the 150th celebrations this autumn.
“And going by past experience, we expect tickets for the show to disappear quicker than snow off the Music Hall roof on a hot July day.”
Billy Connolly has made no secret of his love of playing at the Music Hall in the past – it was the venue where he first wore his famous banana boots.
His last gig in Aberdeen confirmed his status as one of the funniest comedians in the world for his North-east fans.
His rapid, rambling style left the capacity audience gasping for breath, with tears of laughter rolling down their faces as he tackled issues from growing old to taxi drivers.
Billy, now an adopted North-east son thanks to his home at Candacraig in Strathdon, is coming to Aberdeen as part of his Scottish autumn tour.
That will include Edinburgh’s Usher Hall for five nights, four nights at Glasgow’s Clyde Auditorium and one-night stands at Dundee’s Caird Hall and the Perth Concert Hall.
Billy Connolly is a household name the world over, not only for his comedy, but also his acting and writing. His film roles have seen him star alongside the likes of Tom Cruise, in The Last Samurai, and Dame Judi Dench, in Mrs Brown, the Queen Victoria drama set in Balmoral.
Billy has also found phenomenal TV success with his documentaries, charting his journeys around Scotland, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
His most recent series saw him document a 10-week journey from the Atlantic to the Pacific, through the North-west Passage.
Tickets for his September 25 gig at the Music Hall were due to go on sale to Friends of Aberdeen Performing Arts at 9.30am today.
An hour later the general public will get a chance to snap them up at Aberdeen Box Office at the Music Hall, at HMT and by phone.
