ABERDEEN FC manager Mark McGhee today revealed he will bring in a new striker this summer – so he can attack the SPL by playing three up-front.

Renowned for his attacking philosophy, McGhee will employ a three-pronged attack for Aberdeen FC, and signing an established centre-forward is one of his main priorities.

And the new Aberdeen FC boss will give his attackers a target of 35 league goals to fire Aberdeen FC into third spot in the SPL.

He said: “If we are to play three up-front I will need to bring in a certain type of striker who can accommodate that.

“He will have to be a mobile striker who can play centrally with three up-front.

“I will look at all the options. Be it established goal scorers or target men.

“But the main priority is to bring in an established striker, and one who is a good football player.

“Any new striker must be one who will come in and immediately put pressure on the ones already at the club.”

Aberdeen FC’s shot-shy strike force mustered only 27 goals between them in all competitions last season.

Lee Miller led the way with 12 goals with Chris Maguire (6), Darren Mackie (6), Tommy Wright (2) and Michael Paton (1).

McGhee said: “The only thing that can really be seen as improvement at Aberdeen FC is to finish third.

“To get third spot in the SPL, strikers would probably need to get around 35 goals between them.

“Hopefully there will be an improvement in terms of scoring goals in the new season.”

McGhee will step up his pre-season preparations on Monday when the squad report to the RGU:Sport at 7am for intensive fitness tests.

It will be the start of regular 7am starts and double training sessions that will culminate in a 10-day training camp at the Obertraun facility in Austria from July 10-19.

Aberdeen FC then enter the Europa League third qualifying round on July 30, and McGhee wants new faces secured by then.

“By the time we play the European game hopefully we will have a signing or two confirmed,” said McGhee.
