AN ABERDEEN community council at the centre of a cash probe is to put its accounts on public display.

Aberdeen’s Garthdee Community Council is to make the move after allegations of financial irregularities were levelled at group chairwoman and acting treasurer Moira Cassie, as well as her Aberdeen City Councillor husband Scott.

Today, one member of Garthdee Community Council, who did not want to be named, said there would be changes in the group.

And all of the Aberdeen group’s financial transactions would be readily available to anyone who wanted to see them.

The Garthdee Community Council source said: “Everybody will be staying with the community council but there will be new people coming onboard.

“There will be a different system with clear accounts and everything will be recorded by every member.

“They will be displayed in a public place so people can be clear where the money is spent.”

Grampian Police fraud squad detectives in Aberdeen have started quizzing members of the Aberdeen community council as part of the inquiry.

It was understood Grampian Police detectives interviewed Garthdee Community Council members of the group on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The allegations emerged after £1,500 was paid to Inchgarth Community Centre by Aberdeen councillor Scott Cassie on behalf of the Garthdee Community Council for an extension to the building.

The payment was made in April this year, despite Garthdee Community Council’s accounts showing it was paid in 2008.

The payment was allegedly delivered by Scott Cassie in the form of a banker’s draft from a building society not used by the Aberdeen community council.

Mrs Cassie resigned as chairwoman of Garthdee Community Council.

The Aberdeen group was given a bank book which showed £7,990 had been “repaid” into the account.

Mr Cassie’s political future will be discussed at a meeting of his fellow Lib Dem councillors on Monday.
