A TEAM of Aberdeen engineering students are gearing up for success on the track with a car they built from scratch.
The group from the University of Aberdeen will take part in the International Formula Student competition at Silverstone.
The contest takes place on July 18 and 19.
Students from across the world design, build and then race a car. Aberdeen’s 16-strong group – named TAU Racing – has been working on the project since November.
The students have been spending 10 to 20 hours a day creating the machine they hope will pip the opposition to the post.
Team leader Matt Springer, 23, who is studying for a degree in mechanical engineering with management, said the group is now testing the car under race conditions.
He said: “The project has been a fantastic challenge.”
The annual competition is organised by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.
Several organisations, including main sponsor Asset Development and Improvement Limited, have given £14,000 to the group.
