AN ABERDEEN postman has been suspended after hundreds of letters and parcels allegedly went missing.

Residents in the Woodside and Kittybrewster areas of Aberdeen say parcels, packets and other items they expected to receive failed to arrive.

Royal Mail bosses today confirmed an investigation into the alleged missing mail was under way and that a report was likely to be sent to the procurator fiscal.

It was understood the postman, who works out of Aberdeen’s Kittybrewster Delivery Office, was suspended after being confronted by bosses about claims from residents about missing mail.

A resident of Aberdeen’s Clifton Road today said she was told by staff at the delivery office that a large number of people were affected.

The 37-year-old mum-of-two said: “I noticed one of my credit card account statements had not arrived and then found out a delivery which was definitely sent out to me had not arrived.

“I started thinking about it and there were a couple of things I would have expected to have been through by now which I have never seen. I’ve spoken to some of my neighbours and they have realised a few things they expected to have delivered have never arrived.”

A Royal Mail spokeswoman confirmed a postman from Aberdeen’s Kittybrewster delivery office had been suspended.

She said: “We would like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience.

“It is a criminal offence to tamper with or delay mail and anyone caught doing so will face serious disciplinary measures.”
