Golden China: Elmbank Terrace, Aberdeen

MY FLATMATES have been raving about this great takeaway just around the corner from us. Surely no restaurant can live up to such massive hype.

Well, somehow, Golden China has managed it.

For starters I picked my favourite, fried wun tun (£2.30). These crispy deep-fried parcels were perfect when dunked deep into the delicious sweet and sour sauce.

My flatmate chose spicy shredded chicken (£3.50) – bite-size pieces of chicken in a crispy batter.

Although tasty, it lacked the kick he expected.

For my main, I went for the steamed fish (£5.80). The flesh was perfectly moist, wrapped in a delicious steamed batter-like coating, with a dark sauce with garlic and five spice.

Daniel picked the traditional chow mein, with a Szechuan twist (£5.90).

The bold dish was packed with soft noodles and bursts of chilli, pepper and garlic. Fried rice (£1.60) made sure no great food was missed.

The only downer with this otherwise perfect meal was the 10% charge for using my card.
