ABERDEEN FC have signed nine youth players on full-time contracts for the new season.

The youngsters will automatically go into the Aberdeen FC Under-19 squad.

Aberdeen FC youth coach Neil Cooper said: “We have nine new faces on board and this is the chance for them to progress to the next level.”

“The scouts and the coaches have been working hard with these players to get them to the level where they are deemed good enough to be offered a full-time contract.

“This is the start of their path in the journey to get into the first team.”

The Under-19s returned to full-training at the start of the week. The senior squad will return tomorrow.

“The players were issued with a training sheet to complete over the summer and they have come back in good condition,” he said.

“The days have gone when players come back well over weight.

“It is a shorter break nowadays and the players do preparation work during the summer to get themselves ready.”

Promising Irish defensive duo Joe Shaunghnessy and Patrick Barrett were snapped up.

“Our chief scout Colin Grant had seen them in competitions in Ireland,” he said.

“Both are centre-backs who have a lot of potential which we aim to further.”

A number of the players have progressed from the Under-17 squad to sign full-time contracts.

Conor Devaney, Fraser Fyvie, Jamie Masson, Clark Robertson and Jordan Brown have all made the step up.

“Moving up from the 17s to 19s is a big transition,” said Cooper.

“But these players have a lot of potential.

“There were other clubs after Fraser Fyvie so we are delighted that he opted to join us.”

The Under-19s will face Cove Rangers, Sunnybank and Turriff United in pre-season friendlies.

New players: Jordon Brown, Joe Shaunghnessy, Dominico Gibson, Patrick Barrett, Prezemyslaw Lukasik, Jamie Masson, Fraser Fyvie, Conor Devaney, Clark Robertson.
