Aberdeen road plagued by potholes
Fury over state of Sainsbury’s roundabout

POTHOLES are causing problems for drivers at a busy roundabout outside an Aberdeen supermarket.
The potholes scar the roadway at the entrance to Sainsbury’s in Garthdee.
And huge potholes have also been spotted in Pitmedden Terrace in Garthdee and Cranford Road in nearby Mannofield.
Taxi driver Dave Nelson said the road surface at the Sainsbury’s roundabout was “awful”.
The 53-year-old, of Garthdee, said: “It’s disgraceful. The businesses in the Garthdee area should have to pay as well as the council for the potholes to be fixed.”
Carpet fitter Michael Gray said the Sainsbury’s roundabout, which also leads to B&Q, was in a “bad state”.
The 21-year-old, of Garthdee, said: “The road near Sainsbury’s is badly needing repaired because it’s really bumpy when you’re in the car.”
George Laing, secretary of Garthdee Community Council, said the council tried to patch the potholes with stones and tar. “It’s not good enough because it just gets washed out,” he added.
And Garthdee area councillor Ian Yuill said he would report the potholes to the city council.
He said: “I would like to see the council spend more money on repairing potholes on roads.”
A city council spokeswoman said: “Repairing the roundabout at Sainsbury's is on this year's programme of works. We are looking at the extent of the works and the timing of them.”
Meanwhile, the number of motorists trying to claim off city council insurers for damage caused by potholes has more than doubled since 2008.
