Silk Road: Chattan Place, Aberdeen

I LIKE going over to our pals Mark and Judith’s for a visit, because there’s usually a take-away meal in the equation somewhere.

Our recent catch-up was no different, bit of chat, bit of banter, bit of ooh-ing over new babies – and a visit to Silk Road and a shared feast.

The grease-free, fresh and flavoursome spring rolls (£2.50) were a treat, as were the meaty, zingy spicy peppered ribs (£3.50).

On the mains front, the retro chicken curry (£4.20) was a delight – all old-school five spice and almost liquoricy. A bit more heat would have been welcomed, though.

In contrast, the honey chilli chicken (£4.20) could have done with a touch less fire. It was sweet and yummy – just a bit burny at first bite.

Those old standards, beef in a black bean sauce (£4.20) and chicken chow mein (£5.60) rounded off our treat – with liberal dashes of soy sauce to bring out the full potential of the flavours.

The Silk Road is one worth taking.
