New Century: Cross Street, Fraserburgh

DURING a stay in the Broch my boyfriend and I couldn’t be bothered getting dressed up for dinner – so we got into our comfy clobber and ordered in.

And the New Century Chinese seemed the ideal choice. A massive pile of food arrived complete with boxes of free entrees.

For starters we ordered prawn toast (£3) and spicy smoked chicken (£3.80). The seafood toast was deliciously crunchy.

And the chicken was fantastic – crispy strips were smoky and fiery without being overpowering.

Our free samples included sticky and sweet barbecue spare ribs – which were quickly polished off – and a bag of seriously-tasty mini spring rolls.

For the main course I had satay chicken (£4.20). Tender chunks of meat were served in an amazingly aromatic peanut sauce.

My boyfriend opted for Hong Kong style sweet and sour (£4.20). The chicken was lightly coated in batter and doused in a tasty, tangy sauce.

With boiled rice (£1.40), noodles (£2) and prawn crackers the massive meal was around £20.
