DRIVING, I hate it. And after the stress of the Haudagain roundabout at rush hour I was ready for somewhere to relax.
Just a five-minute drive from the Haudagain, The Cloverleaf Hotel in Bucksburn offers a much-needed oasis of calm.
As I picked up the menu in the relaxed restaurant, the Haudagain seemed a million miles away.
Looking for something light but filling I opted for a cheese, onion and tomato omelette (£4.99).
Light and fluffy, it had been cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth.
So often omelettes can be bland, but this had a real zing.
My only gripe was that the lack of accompanying salad with the meal.
My friend plumped for the scampi (£4.99) which was coated in dark breadcrumbs.
Her plate was overflowing and she gave the dish a hearty thumbs-up.
To wash it down I passed on the normal pint of lager in favour of a cup of coffee.
In many bars, coffee normally comes in a wee cup – three gulps and it is gone.
Not in the Cloverleaf. Here you get a huge pot of steaming coffee, enough for three large cups.
My friend went for a diet coke and the bill came to a very reasonable £12.80.
Friendly staff, a relaxed atmosphere, fine food and a recession-friendly bill. The Cloverleaf Hotel really hits all the right buttons.
