A NEW foal at Doonies Farm is proving a popular attraction.

A cute Eriskay foal has been born at Aberdeen’s Doonies Farm – one of a rare breed of ponies.

The male foal made his arrival three weeks ago and was said to be settling in well at the Doonies Farm in Nigg.

The foal has yet to be named but Doonies farm manager Graham Lennox said he soon will be.

The foal is enjoying being looked after by his mum Rhona.

The foal is joined by the other Eriskay ponies Ptarmigan, Misty and Spirit.

Graham said: “The foal’s out in the field with his mother Rhona and settling in well. He’s being a typical boy and is very mischievous.

“I’m sure he’ll be very popular with visitors to Doonies Farm.”

Fresh hope has now been offered to the closure-threatened farm. Aberdeen City Council is negotiating a possible future for Doonies with a third party.

The move comes after a failed campaign to save Doonies Farm in March.

Doonies Farm, which was visited by more than 2,000 over the Easter weekend, is expected to close in June.

It is such a shame that this excellent facility is constantly under threat. Not only does it preserve breeds but is an excellent educational facility for our chidren. Perhaps Sir Ian Wood would consider stepping in and saving it as opposed to concreting over Union Terrace Gardens, the green lungs of the city centre.
