Dutch Mill Hotel: Queens Road, Aberdeen

IT’S ALWAYS a good sign when a restaurant is full and there is nowhere to sit.

But it’s even better when you are forced to sit in the bar in front of a big screen showing the football!

With the same menu available in the restaurant and bar, we weren’t disadvantaged by having to sit in the main area.

And it certainly made no difference to the food.

My prawn cocktail starter (£4.70) was a mammoth portion – not far off being big enough to be a main meal in itself. The juicy prawns were slathered in a lovely and tangy marie rose sauce, soaked up by a plentiful salad.

My girlfriend’s deep fried mushrooms (£4.50) were “really tasty”, and stuffed with cream cheese giving the dish a little something extra compared to normal garlic mushrooms.

But the lovely starters were easily overtaken by the gorgeous main courses.

I didn’t need breakfast the next day such was the effect of the Big Mill burger (£9.50) with bacon. Two mammoth 4oz pieces of beef with a succulent charcoal taste – my mouth is watering just at the thought of it.

It’s not very often I don’t finish a meal, but this time I was beaten – and well beaten at that.

The chicken goujons being enjoyed at the other side of the table had a super homemade feel about them, while the sweet chilli dip packed an added punch.

And along with a bottle of wine (£13.50), the total bill

came to (£40.10).
