Spacious Tudor-style property ticks all the right boxes

WHEN Scott McKay was house-hunting for a bigger property his priority was to find one that he could put his own stamp on.
Scott had drawn up a list of things he was looking for and this stunning house in Woodcroft Avenue, Bridge of Don, ticked all the boxes.
Sitting on a large corner plot in a quiet street it included one of his must-haves, a big double garage where he could house his Mini Cooper and work on his beloved Lotus Exige.
“ I absolutely fell in love with it.
“Its red brick and Tudor-style finish is unusual and also it’s in one of the prettiest schemes in Aberdeen.
“I knew straight off this was the house for me.
“Although it looked nice from the outside, inside it was pretty outdated.
“This was perfect as I was looking for a project, something I could put my own stamp on.
“Also you just get that feeling that you want it and will stop at nothing to get it.” said 31-year-old Scott.
“I had my heart set on it.”
Over the last three years , Scott, an engineer with General Electric, has totally refurbished and redecorated throughout. With his extensive DIY skills he transformed the kitchen and cloakroom replacing old fittings and fixtures with new.
Scott has a great eye for style and has gone for a modern feel.
“I often get an idea just from an accessory and will build a room round it.”
His mono-theme second bedroom was inspired by a black and white zebra rug spotted in a local store.
On the ground floor, dark furniture contrasts sharply with clean crisp white walls.
The lounge is big and bright with picture window, feature fireplace and patio doors to the garden.
It’s also where Scott likes to relax and play the guitar – he has three dotted around the room.
The formal dining room is a good size and overlooks the front of the house.
Scott’s pride and joy is the kitchen where his DIY skills can be seen to full effect.
He has fitted a high quality and stylish range of wall and base units and breakfast bar.
To finish the look are sparkling black granite work surfaces and stainless steel appliances.
Also on the ground floor is a cloakroom with a modern suite and a utility room.
Upstairs is the bright and airy master bedroom, which has two fitted double wardrobes and en-suite shower room.
There are a further three light and spacious bedrooms each with fitted wardrobes.
The luxury family bathroom is fitted with a white three-piece suite and Jacuzzi-style bath.
And it’s not just the interior of this house that’s impressive – outside is equally outstanding.
When Scott first saw it he loved that it felt as if you were in the countryside yet only 10 minutes from town.
A side gate provides access to a country walk, which is a real bonus as Scott shares his home with energetic beagle Mac.
Another plus was the pond in the back garden, something Scott had always wanted.
“I’m not much of a gardener but I like to potter about in it.
“I believe a previous owner was a landscaped gardener.
“He made a very nice job of the garden and now it’s just a case of maintaining it.”
The huge double garage also serves as a games room. It has vinyl flooring, the walls have been lined and it has a pool table and bar optics for night’s in with the lads.
Scott has certainly put his stamp on this property.
“I’ll miss everything about this house, as it’s my dream house.
“However, as I actually prefer working on houses than living in them it’s time to move on to another project.”
