AN IMPRESSIVE and stylish show home won over Susie and Donald Bradford when they were searching for a spacious family home.
“We were looking for a bigger house and had been to see so many show houses,” said Susie, 34, a petrophysicist with Shell.
“Then we saw something about houses that were going to be built in Belhelvie.”
As the same type of houses were also being built at Daviot, Susie and project manager husband Donald, 36, went along for a look.
“We fell in love with this house style straight away,” she said.
“So we bought off-plan, snapping up a big corner plot.
“We knew from the style and layout that it would be a perfect family home for us.
“It was spacious, a good quality build and looked a lot better than anything else we had seen.
“Also Belhelvie is a nice village, quite idyllic and really quiet.”
The couple, who share their house with daughters Rebecca, 10, and Ellie, 4, moved into their new-build in October 2003.
They have taken a while to get it as it is, adding a lovely sun lounge in the process.
Over the years they have tried out different colour schemes, even painting the kitchen purple at one stage.
“We have kept the downstairs neutral as it makes the space feel nice and airy and also it’s easy to maintain,” Susie said.
In the elegant lounge there is an attractive feature fireplace.
Susie said: “We spend a lot of time in here in the winter as it has the fire and it’s cosy.
“Also when you want a bit of quiet and space, it’s nice to go there when everyone else is in the kitchen.”
The heart of the house is the huge open-plan area, which combines the kitchen, dining area and sun lounge.
The kitchen is fitted with a sleek range of base and wall units. And a breakfast bar provides space for informal dining.
Off the kitchen is the utility room with a door to the back garden.
In the spacious dining area there is enough room for a huge table and chairs, a sideboard and other furniture.
The wow factor of this area is definitely the huge sun lounge with its walls of glass.
Views across the garden and the countryside can be enjoyed from this room.
Open up the French doors and you step on to a decked patio area which is perfect for entertaining and alfresco dining.
On the first floor there is also a good-sized cloakroom and a study which used to be the dining room.
“We find we use the dining table a lot more now it’s within the open-plan area.
“Also having a study is great.” said Susie.
Upstairs is a very big master bedroom.
“ I love it as it’s so spacious,” said Susie. “There is a large walk-in wardrobe which we have fitted with shelves.
“It’s a little bit of luxury.”
The en-suite shower room has a white two-piece suite and shower cubicle.
There are four more double-size bedrooms on this floor plus a spacious family bathroom.
“We’ll be sad to leave our home but as our parents and family live in the Laurencekirk area, we want to move closer to them.
“If we could take the house down the road with us, we would.”
