WITH my girlfriend popping up for a flying visit and no time to cook, a takeaway was the obvious solution.
So after the usual argument of what to have, we settled on a curry.
The vegetable pakora (£2.75) got the meal off to a great start. While not crispy, they were full of flavour and very light.
I also went for my old favourite of a lamb vindaloo (£7.25). The tender meat spoke of long cooking and the highly-spiced sauce was robust and packed quite a wallop. The missus went for a chicken dansac (£7.25) and was very taken with its subtle but delicious sweet and sour flavour.
Sadly, the sag aloo (£4.50) was lacking in potato. And although tasty – packed with garlic and cumin – a handful of fresh coriander could have given it a lift.
The disappointment didn’t last long, with a huge garlic naan (£2.50), sticky-sweet with clarified butter. Bad for the heart, but great for the tastebuds.
Suitably stuffed, my girlfriend agreed that the grub had been worth coming home for.
