WITH nothing in the fridge but a piece of cheese and a jar of mango chutney my boyfriend and I sacked the supermarket for a carry out.
And the Ruby takeaway had been recommended.
For starters we had the mixed combo (£8.30). Endless boxes of appetisers came with an array of sauces.
The spring rolls were light and the satay skewers were delicious. The prawn toast was a bit dark but still tasty and my boyfriend happily tucked into the Peking ribs.
For the main I had Hong Kong-style sweet and sour chicken (£4.40). A generous portion of lightly battered chicken was doused with tangy sauce served with pepper and pineapple.
My partner went for chicken in oyster sauce (£4.40). Tender strips of poultry served in an aromatic sauce with slices of bamboo shoots and mushroom.
With noodles (£1.70) and mixed vegetable rice (£4.10) the lot came to under £24.
We found a bit of a gem with Ruby – and the hefty portions meant plenty of leftovers.
