AMATEUR side Newmachar United are considering launching an application to join the juniors from next season.

Newmachar manager John Matthews admits talks have taken place with North Region secretary Jack Whitehead.

But the Division 2 North club, who play at Charles Gordon Park, will not make a final decision until holding a committee meeting.

Matthews said: “Talks have taken place between ourselves and the North Region, but no decision has been made regarding whether we will be submitting an application.

“Jack Whitehead was very complimentary and didn’t think we would have a lot to do to meet the criteria.

“We don’t know if a decision will be taken in time for next season as we haven’t got that far yet.

“We have to think long and hard because it is a big step.”
