NOT many boys team’s get help from an ex-Scotland star ahead of a crunch game.
But Albion Boys Club U13s did when former Aberdeen FC star Jim Bett dropped in to give some expert coaching.
Albion face Rangers Supporters Association Boys Club in the semi-final of the Scottish Youth FA cup tomorrow at Heathryfold Park (KO 2pm).
Co-manager Bruce McGregor was delighted to call on the services of Bett. He said: “Jim is actually my next-door neighbour.
“He’s helped us in the past before big games. It’s great for the boys, even if we did have to explain to some of them who he was!”
Bruce is going for three-in-a-row in the Scottish Cup, as he won it last year with the U15s and the year before with U14s.
Co-manager John Hill is closing in on four-in-a-row and seven in total as he worked with Bruce on those two triumphs and also lifted the cup with the U16s in 2006.
Bruce was full of praise for his team of young battlers.
He said: “We have done exceptionally well to get this far, more than 600 teams entered the competition so to get to the semi-final is a great achievement.
“Under 13 is the only age group we have never won the competition in so it would be fantastic to complete the set and lift the trophy this year.”
The tie will be played at Sunnybank’s Heathryfold Park, and Rangers are bringing up three coach-loads of fans to support their boys.
And Bruce is expecting a bumper turn-out.
He said: “We’re expecting a crowd of between 300 and 400 for the match, it’s great that Rangers are bringing up so many fans and hopefully it will be a proper cup tie atmosphere.”
The winners will face either Gairdoch United or Tynecastle FC in the final.
