Section of Riverside Drive shut

AN ABERDEEN road was closed this afternoon after a river burst its banks.
A section of Riverside Drive was shut, from Great Southern Road to Queen Elizabeth Bridge, after the River Dee overflowed.
Police this afternoon said the road was expected to be closed for a number of hours.
Dennis Hanson, director of MGA Consultancy Services which is based on Riverside Drive, said: “I was a bit worried when I saw the water at first because I was concerned the water would come as far as our offices
“We are at a dip in the road so if it did come as far as us it could come down and flood our basement.
“But it seems to have subsided now.
“The police were turning people away from coming on to Riverside Drive and a Bon Accord Glass van was being used to block the road.”
The flooding was first noticed at 1.30pm today.
A spokesman for the Met Office in Aberdeen said: “It could have come as a result of heavy rainfall to the west of the Grampian mountains in the past few days.”
