Firebugs strike at Aberdeen high-rise
Police probe attacks

FIREBUGS started two separate fires in an Aberdeen tower block.
Police were today investigating the blazes which happened in Seaton’s North Sea Court.
And police officers warned the fireraisers’ actions could have had devastating consequences.
A total of 22 firefighters from four fire crews tackled the outbreaks.
Five crew members in breathing apparatus climbed eight flights of stairs to help extinguish the flames at the Aberdeen high rise.
Dc Kerry Fraser, who is leading the police inquiry, said: “These fires could have had serious consequences and I am urging anyone who was in the area at the time or has any knowledge of these fires to contact myself or Grampian Police.”
The two fires were started at about 12.30am yesterday.
A flat door on the eighth floor was damaged. And the back door of the basement was also targeted but no one was injured.
A joint investigation has been launched by police and Grampian Fire and Rescue Service.
A police spokesman confirmed both fires were started deliberately.
Area councillor Jim Noble said it was “disappointing” that another fire had been started in the tower block.
He said: “I’m grateful that no one was injured but it is always concerning to hear of a fire in a multi-storey building.
“I’m sure the police will be doing everything they can to catch those responsible and hopefully they can catch them soon.
“There are a lot of good people in Seaton and North Sea Court but there are one or two people who let the whole area down.”
Last summer the tower block was hit by four fires in a month.
The first happened on July 6, when a pile of rubbish was set on fire in a hallway. On July 29 rubbish was set alight in a bin room. And on August 4, another fire was started in the ground floor bin room.
Just over 24 hours later, the fourth fire was started in a drying room.
